Ground Up Builds
Always had a custom dream car in mind custom tailored to suit your desires?
We partner with our customers to bring their awesome and unique car concepts to real life, rumbling showpieces.
The custom car builder process is an exciting and intense journey for which not all shops are equipped. This is how we ensure top-quality work, turned around fast.
Consult – Before the first spark of a welder, customers meet with our owner Justin Vermillion for a tour the facility and discuss ideas for the project. Pictures, magazines, books or even a drawing on a napkin is enough to get started. Once we understand the style of car you want, one of our professional artists will put your ideas on paper.
Design/Review – Renderings start out as pretty simple sketches and after several revisions and a final concept is reached, a full color rendering will be created. These renderings will keep everyone on the same page and used as a guide while building the car, they also make great artwork to hang on an office or home wall.
Now we get out the grinders and welders to start the fun of welding, cutting, chopping, grinding, and mock up fitment. We do a lot of our own metal fabrication in house and all body work work in-house, ensuring a seamless restoration or clean new build.
As we fabricate, clients can ask for updates or photos, or many choose to come by regularly to get sneak peeks. Some will wait for the big reveal at the end to get knocked out of their shoes.
Ok, there’s no way that we are outsourcing it at this point. Our dedicated experts are artists and craftsmen are comfortable applying the highest quality new finishes on a new build or exotic, or restoring and protecting a patina finish on a pre-war classic.
We push the car (and/or its parts) into our state-of-the-art booth at Vermillion Paint Works that has an incredible history of applying finishes on some of the world’s most rare classic and exotic cars.
Now we’re having real fun as we watch the car take shape for the final time. We start building up from the chassis, placing in the engine, run all wiring and hard lines, then the body panels start to go on.
We reconstruct the interior of the vehicle, placing gauges, seats, controls, interior panels, upholstery, accents, and more.
All mechanics, gauges, and electronics are tested thoroughly. We rigorously check assembly, finishing, and detailing to ensure the car is both road-ready and show-ready. We can arrange delivery, or have you come in for the big reveal and get to drive a highly-tuned piece of art right out of our showroom.
Todd's '68 Camaro
Todd purchased his dream car '68 Camaro – basically, as pile of parts. He planned on doing the project himself but after two years of trying to restore the car on weekends and evenings decided it was time for a professional to take over. He was referred to Justin at Vermillion who brought Todd in to check out the facility and meet all the guys in the custom car builder's shop.
“I've grown up piddling with cars. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and did a lot of the mechanical stuff myself, but I wanted to get these guys to hit it out of the park. They helped with my paint and body needs plus took care of my mechanical items as needed.”

"My project was done in a timely manner and all the work was impeccable! Not only were all the body lines and body gaps absolutely perfect on my car the paint was show quality, perfection to say the least! Thanks, Vermillion Speed and Paint Works!! "
